bimaAFYA funded by The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation!

bimaAFYA is now funded by The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to improve product design and uptake. The funding will be for a period of one year and half and we expect to get bigger impacts with bimaAFYA in the Tanzania Market. The funding kick-off took place in San Fransisco, California, USA and our Founder attended at IDEO.org offices. IDEO.org will be researching and proposing action items for bimaAFYA improvement and uptake!

EdgePoint won a pitch and win competition by Ericsson in Capetown last week! The event that was part of the AfriCom Awards 2015 was very competitive and bimaAFYA was proud to be this year's winner! EdgePoint Digital’s bimaAFYA has been shortlisted for AfricaCom Awards 2015 in the Most Innovative Service Category. BimaAFYA is listed alongside Airtel Tanzania, First National Bank, PCCW Global, Project Isizwe, Trace Group and Vumatel. The Most Innovative Service award will be awarded to a popular new offering which, from conception to execution, has been an innovation. It could be for the consumer or the enterprise markets, and could be messaging, mcommerce, video, etc. It must be in an African market, and should have offered significant new prospects for revenue growth and customer satisfaction on the night of 18th November 2015 in CapeTown SouthAfrica. Trello lists bimaAFYA as Potential Pre-SOWs

Mobile Money is bringing more and more products and services to bottom of the pyramid (BoP) customers in Africa. The market leader in mobile money in Tanzania is Vodacom’s M-Pesa. Many businesses and organizations targeting middle and upper class customers have opened M-Pesa (and other mobile money providers) collection accounts to receive payments from their customers. The most important use of mobile money by BoP customers still is sending and receiving remittances to/from family and friends but other applications by companies targeting BoP clients are emerging: saving money and loans (M-Pawa), health insurance (bimaAfya), pre-paid solar electricity (M-Kopa, Mobisol, Off-Grid:Electric), and very recently pre-paid biogas (Takamoto Biogas). Diamond Platnimuz (middle), Africa's biggest artist visited Edgepoint office for a partnership with EdgePoint in his popular Project called #PushMtaa which aims at improving lives of communities that the Artist was raised as a way of giving back to his people.
